1. Introduction

This PAIA Manual has been prepared in accordance with Section 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), which enables any person to understand what records a private body holds and how to request access to such information.

Mali Pty Ltd is committed to promoting transparency, accountability and openness while safeguarding personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

This Manual explains the structure of the organisation, the categories of records held, the process to request access to information and the applicable fees.

3. Guide of the Information Regulator

4. Types of Records Held by Mali Pty Ltd

Mali holds records necessary for operational, compliance and financial services functions. These include, but are not limited to:

  • MyChama savings verification (Mali does not hold deposits; only the verification record)

5. Records Automatically Available

The following records are available without requiring a formal PAIA request:

  • Information on the Mali website

  • Product descriptions and pricing

  • Frequently asked questions

  • Privacy Policy

  • Terms & Conditions


6. Records Requiring a PAIA Request

Access to certain records may be restricted unless formally requested because they contain confidential, financial, personal or proprietary information.

These include:

  • Client files

  • Financial records

  • Internal operational documents

  • HR and employee records

  • Supplier agreements

  • Insurer-related documents

  • Risk and assessment data

Access will only be granted if it satisfies the requirements of Section 70 of PAIA and POPIA.


7. Request Procedure

To request access to information, the requester must:

7.1 Complete the Prescribed Form

Use Form 2 as issued by the Information Regulator (Available at www.inforegulator.org.za).

7.2 Submit the Form

Send the completed request to:

7.3 Required Information

The request must include:

  • Detailed description of the record being requested

  • Proof of identity (copy of ID)

  • Postal or email address to receive the response

  • Indication of the form of access required


8. Fees Payable

PAIA allows for fees to be charged for:

  • Access request fee

  • Reproduction of documents

  • Search and preparation time

Current fees (as per PAIA Regulations):

  • Request fee: R140

  • Photocopying: R2.00 per page

  • Electronic record: Actual cost

  • Search: R75 per hour or part thereof

Access will only be granted once all applicable fees are paid.


9. Grounds for Refusal of Access

Mali may refuse access to information if it:

  • Contains personal information of a third party

  • Is confidential and commercially sensitive

  • Is protected by professional privilege

  • Could harm Mali’s commercial or financial interests

  • Would constitute an unreasonable disclosure of personal information

Refusals comply strictly with Sections 62–70 of PAIA.


10. POPIA Compliance Statement

Mali is committed to protecting personal information and ensuring all data processing complies with POPIA.
Personal information will only be collected, used and stored for lawful and reasonable purposes, and retained only as long as required for regulatory or operational reasons.

Your privacy rights, including access, correction, deletion and objection, are respected and upheld.

This Manual is available:

  • From the Information Officer upon request

  • As a printed copy at the business premises (where applicable)


12. Amendment of This Manual

Mali may amend this Manual from time to time.
The most recent version will always be available on our website.
